LESS POLITICS, .MORE EFFICIENCY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) UHIUSTCHURCH, Thursday. A lengthy remit, moved by Mr. H. J, Marriner, ivk 'brought forward at the Chambers of Commerce Conference today by the Canterbury Chamber, advo-
eating the appointment of a non-political board to be responsible to trie Government and Parliament for the construction and control of railways. After discussion, the mover agreed to drop • this motion, end the conference re- ' affirmed the following remit passed by the conference in November last: — "That in order to eliminate political in-: tiuence and promote greater efficiency and economy all railways in course of construction and in prospect be taken over by the-Railway Department, and f that this conference affirm the principle of non-political control."' This was carried without dissent.
