TWO VENTURESOME YOUTHS.
TO TIRITIRI IX A DINGHY. A couple of Takapuna youths, whilst out on a sailing excursion last weekend, had a perilous time at sea. Leaving Takapuna in the early hours of the morning in a 12ft dinghy, and with a light breeze, they made good progres» northward*, but with the wind springing up they realised the danger of facing big waves for the Teturn journey. They accordingly ran for Tirttiri, where they arrived about mid-day. There they were advised by the lighthouse-keeper not to attempt to go back that day, ani he also offered toput them up for the night. Having business duties to attend to' the following morning they expressea inability to accept his invitation, ana decided to seek the good services of * pleasure launch whk-h \va> observed at anchor north of the island. They started off vowing in that direction, but in the meantime the launch had moved on. Then , they found they could not get back to firi. and that their only chance of safety was to make for till Little Barrier, a' distance of some thirty miles. Shipping sea*, they were IB imminent dancer of being swamped, when Mr. Monty fiarnauf? iishiug laimen, bound for Devonnort. providentially came along iu>t n> darkness was fallmff. A resells was quickly effected. »* youths and dinghy bein? taken aboar* the launch, and conveyed to Deronpori.
