I rt was fitting that to-day being [Trafalgar Day the Point Chevalier i School Committee should choose it for j the unveiling of the memorial tablet I which _u_s been erected in the district ! school in memory of the boys who went jto the war. The tablet, which is of j I Coromandel granite, is let into the wall 'of the infant department. 'school. The list is not yet complete, and as there is great difficulty in compiling J it, the committee would be glad if anyone knowing the names of old boys who served with the forces would send along the necessary information to enalble those names to be added to the scroll. Tlie school made a very good showing, and the list includes the name of 'Mr. P. R. Burton, who was first j assistant when the war broke out. He I'was one of the most popular masters the ! school has had, and he was to have (been i one 0. tic speakers at to-day's gathering, ibut unforeseen circumstances pievented him being present. [ As the tablet is the district memorial I there was a representative gathering, j the guests including members of the neighbouring local bodies and the Education Board. Mr. W. D. M. Mclnnes, who was headmaster at the school when the erection of the tablet was inaugurated, and has since been promoted to Bayfield, .made a neat speech, and reminded the children of the meaning of the event they had met to honour. The school children, under the headmaster, Mr. A. J. Hall, took an active part in the ceremony, including saluting tlie flag. Under the"baton of Mr. Hiokson they also sang Kipling's "Recessional" and tbe National Anthem.
