COLONIALS IN IMPERIAL SERVICES.
' PENSIONS AND PAY. i Lord Wolmer, M.P. for Aldershot, in i Parliament on duly 1,1, asked the Soere- : tary of Stale for War the grounds on i which service in any Dominion Colonial |, Force does not ■ uunt as qualifying j i service under Articles 1130 or 1136, Pay '' Warrant, or under Table 1 of Army!! Order '12"i of 1111!), or for increase of pay ' under table 1 of thai order; and I whether lie is aware that there is al . great feeling of injustice among soldiers ! , who served in Colonial forces duriug the j j war at this distinction against them? ! Lieutenant-Colonel Stanley: Pensions I and increases of pay granted in respect of service are always assessed on the service given to the Government which j pays the pension or increase of pay, j unless, as in the case of the British Army in India) continuous service is regularly shared between two Governments, in which case pension is also 'shared. The cases to which the question | refers are those of men who happen to | have served, at different times, in both ; Dominion and Imperial Forces. In such cases. I am not prepared to admit that ; the rule inflicts injustice on the soldier, { while the payment of pension and in-1 j creased pay on the lines suggested would j throw all unfair charge on the British : taxpayer. j
