"THE THREE SIXES."
(To the Editor! t Sir,—An article entitled "The Three ixes," published in the September iris.iejj f the '"Church Gazette," seems to have hocked Mr. J. L. Kelly. He asserts that t he article throws discredit on the prohetical Scriptures. It does nothing of t he sort, but it was certainly intended 0 throw discredit on the fantastic ' lethod of interpretation adopted by ceram students of prophecy. This method f as been discredited by its own history, j ts crude absurdities, and the ridiculous | lanipulation of figures by which any t esired result is obtained deserve to be p iseredited. They tend to bring Biblical tudy into contempt. The interprotaion of "6CG,'' the number of the Beast 1 the Rook of Revelation, has been reponsible for a weird display of arithletical gymnastics with the object of onneeting prophetic utterances with curent evente. These crazy performances r avc been described and scathingly ridi- o uled by Dr. Salmon in his Introduction * o the New Testament—a standard ; ,-ork. Modern scholarship has finally j nd scornfully rejected such irrational .' nethod of exegesis.—l am, etc., ' THE EDITOR OF THE "CHURCH GAZETTE."
