DEATH OF MR. C. H. S. McKINNEY.
WEIX KNOWN _NS*tTRANCE AGENT. AXD A KEEN SPORTSMAN. Many business and sporting people will regret to hear of the death of Mr. C. H. S. ilcKinney- He was found to be suffering from an abscess in the ear about a fortnight ago, and since then, he gradually got worse, and died this morning. The head of the business known as J. A. Barber and Co., Commerce Street, Customs, shipping and insurance agents, he was very well known in the city, nnd his keen interest in sport widened what was already a large circle of friends. His | father was the Rev. Robert McKinney, of Warkworth, a well-Known Presbyterian minister, and one of the very early settlers of this province. For the past forty years Mr. McKinney, who was 64 at the time of his dealh, had lived in Auckland. He took a very live interest in local affairs at Ellcrslie, where he had made his home, and in addition to serving on the Road Board he was chairman of the school committee for many years. Cricket claimed him for one of its most enthusiastic supporters, and the game in Auckland owes much to him. A keen player in his younger days, he was also 'a. hard-working member of the Auckland | Cricket Association, and .when he had to lay aside the bat he acted as umpire for i many years. On two occasions he | piloted representative Auckland teams ! throuch Xew Zealand, and right through | his career always showed a kindly interest in the younger generation of players. He took a" lively interest in bowls and racing was another hobby of Mr. McKinnev's. He was one or the oldest members of the Auckland Racing Club, a steward of the Auckland Trotting Club and the Avondale Jockey Club, a»d in the days of the Tattersall Club was secretary of that body. Mr. McKinney added to marked business ability and a keenness in popular sports a courteous manner which made him many warm friends, and his widow will have their sincere sympathy in her bereavement. The funeral takes place at Waikaraka, Onehunga, to-morrow afternoon at halfpast two.
