A peculiar mishap occurred to a horse at the Strand, corner of Stanley Street, about midday to-day. The driver of one of Craig's carts was leading a pair of ■ horses to drink, and one, while turning round, slipped and fell on its side right into the trough. One hind leg was doubled up underneath, and the heavy rail round the open top of tlie trough prevented it from getting up. It seemed highly probable that the poor animal would break its leg in its futile struggles to get up, when a passer-by suggested that the rail should be moved. After uselessly endeavouring to saw it away a rope was provided, the free horse was hitched on, and with one good, pull away came the rail, allowing the horse to scramble out of the trough, none the worse for the incident. A report, published recently re the abandonment of a tunnel in the Xorth would appear to have been somewhat misleading. In a statement on the matter Mr. R. R. Hunt points out that the mii formation was nearly a year out of date, i and even more, for the old tunnel was ! abandoned early in the war owing to i shortage of men, and having been left !so long it became difficult to work, so j operations were not resumed on it, but I a new site was selected on which work I had been in progress for nearly a year. "Such good headway was being made in the new tunnel," he finally advised, "thai the change appeared to have been a wise one, and would not delay the completion of the line but expedite it." Deal with a firm with a reputation. : There is no doubt that if you do you i will deal with J. 11. Dalton and Co., ! Ltd., 27C-275. Queen .Street, when order- ■ ing your next suit.—(Ad.) Promenade displays of spring fashions, fabrics, and novelties, at Milne and Choree's, between 7 and !) o'clock this evening. Orchestral selections will be rendered. — (Ad.)
