FIRE AT MATAKOHE.

RESIDENT P.ADLY BURNT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAPAROA, this day. The residence of Mr. James Deming, at ! Matakohc, was burnt to the ground last night. The cause was the explosion of a benzine lamp. Mr. Deming lost bis clothing and bedding, only the furniture being saved. Mr. Deming. who was badly burnt on the arms, was removed to Paparoa Hospital. His wife and family were rescued unhurt. Outbuildings near the house, a quantity of chaff and other I produce were saved. Mr. Deming passed ■ a fairly good night, and is progressing I favourably.
