SURF FATALITY.
SMALL BOAT CAPSIZES, i. AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER DROWNED. "' (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WAIHI, this day. i ," A sad fatality occurred at Ramarama, a small bay on the coast about l± miles from Waihi. yesterday, when a man named Robert Hall was drowned in the surf. His mate, W. H. Carter, I reached the shore in an exhausted eonI dition. It appears that deceased and Carter, who were engaged fishing with W. Clarkson, all residents of Waihi, went | out in a small boat, and when about 50 i yards from the shore the boat capsized. „ j Deceased, who was unable to swim, dk[appeared quickly. Unfortunately the j anchor fell out, and kept the boat from j drifting ashore. Clarkson, who witnessed the accident, j went into the surf, assisted Carter, and i endeavoured to find trace of Hall, whose j body came ashore later. Deceased was | a married man hailing from Yanco, New I South Wales, where his wife resides. He j only recently arrived in Waihi with a, ' contingent of Australian miners. Hall, ! Clarkson, and Carter are returned sol- ! diers. and were engaged in a fishing part- ; i nership. At an inquest held this morn-. I ing a verdict of "accidental death" waa ■ j returned.
