CITY WATER SATISFACTORY.
WORK AT XIHOTUPU. It was reported to the Auckland City Council last night by the city -water, works engineer (Mr. J. Carlaw) thatthe latest analysis by Dr. Gilmour showed that the condition of the city water supply was most satisfactory. According to the four-weekly report oj work at Xihotupu there was a dajly average of 70 men employed. The work had consisted of overhauling the plant and improving the grades and tram tracks, and providing more floor room at the quarry, so as to facilitate work. Xo concrete had 'been laid during the period. In submitting details of the auxiliary dam recently finished the city engineer reported the cost to Is* The estimate was £11.200, and the difference was due to increase in coats, (heavier <work in the foundations than was expected, and bad weather holding up the work. The dam gives a. reservoir of a capacity of 110,000,000 gallons, and will help to tide over the summer until the big dam is finished.
