SHIPPING ON THE COAST.
I ORIENT LINE'S WITHDRAWAL EFFECT OF NEW ACT. LONDON, July 20. The Orient Company announces the j discontinuance of the carriage by its ships of inter-State passengers on the Australian coast, owing to the impossibility of carrying out the requirements imposed by the Navigation Ajt, which are a heavy handicap on steamers designed for overseas services. The company has arrived nt this decision roluc- . tantlv because the withdrawal of its scr-' vice will prejudice tourist traffic with which the company's steamers largoly , dealt. The resultant loss of revenue, also, must cause some postponement of the reduction of overseas fares, which a future fall of costs might justify.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) j
