Mr. Orccn, of the Cent nil Kirebliglu l ommtttec. met the One-tree Hill Una.l Hoard last evening, and asked them l" put into operation the powers given them liy the Act to declare hawthorn a noxious weed. Hawthorn, he said, was the principal Must, plum of lireblight. According in the authority til" leading men in America, who had made investigatinns, in no locality had the blight been successHilly enmhated where hawthorn was growing. The infection was carried from litis plant during the months of October and March, lie mentioned thai other local bcilics. particularly the Waitemata County Council, had taken the matter up at 'the instance of the Kirehlight I'omuiittee. Although a strong check could he effected by cutting the hawthorn back severely ami keeping it cut, the only permanent remedy was to lake it out by ihe roots. Since I lien it had .-uread. following hawthorn hedges, until i; had now reached Taniaki. on the east, and Henderson on the west.
