ELECTRICAL WORKERS' AWARD.
APPEAL AGAINST CONVICTION. At the Arbitration Court this afternoon the appeal of A. W. Mullenger against the conviction of the Magistrate's Court entered at the instance of the Inspector of Awards, was begun. The case involves certain clauses of the electrical workers' award, and the appellant was convicted for under-paying an apprentice. The latter began his occupation when the 1913 award was in operation, which entitled him in his fifth year to 25/ per week, as a matter of fact he was paid 32/. The Department claimed that under the new award which took effect in 1920 he ought to have been paid 90/ weekly. The award of 1920 made three material alterations as far as apwere concerned, including the reduction of the apprenticeship period irom live to four years. It was this clause that affected the apprentice in question, Green.
