The Xew York "Tribune's" London correspondent learns that not only will tho CS. bo acquainted with all the features of the new Anglo-Japanese Treaty before confirmation, but there is a strong possibility that an effort will be made to induce America to become a party to it. It was declared that tlie Premier of Australia, Mr. W. M. Hughes, had already hinted at. this move. The New York "Tribune's" Washington correspondent convassed opinion regarding the message. The consensus of opinion wns that thero was little reason to believe that the United States could Ibe induced to enter such a treaty, owing to the Shantung and Yap situations.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) AMERICA AGAINST ALLIES. AN EX-SENATOR'S "PREDICTION. XEW YORK, May .11. Mr. J. H. Lewis, a foriror member of the Senate, in a speech on preparedness at a Memorial Day service at Chicago, said that he predicted war with Japan, with the latter tacked hy the former allies of the United Stntos\ The United States had not a friend in Europe, and must he vigilant and watoh ful against tricks under tlie cover of friendship perpetrated by nations which, though accepting America's sacrifice of blood and monoy, hod neither sense of appreciation nor gratitude of her. Japan was just coming into consciousness of her power in Asia, and would demand that the Allies should insist that the United States #rant to Japanese the privileges of citizenship. The Allies would not dare to refuse because of commercial entanglements. The younger generation would see in the Pacific a struggle to decide whether the United States should be the first, nation in the world or go down under an Asiatic stroke backed by the Allies.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
