AMBUSH IN CORK.
MILITARY PARTY ATTACKED. 6 KI__ED, 12 WOUNDED. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 31. A party of the Hampshire Regiment, with their band, was ambushed near Youghal, Cork. Five or six of them were killed and nearly a dozen wounded by bombs or on a mined road. Several arrests followed.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) THE FORCES. A CONSTABLE'S CRIME. LONDON, May 31. In the House of Commons, MY. Lloyd George said that it was proposed to strengthen the Crown forces in Ireland. A statement would be made to Parliament when the arrangements were complete. It was not intended to send reservists to Ireland. — (Renter.) A constable of the Royal Irish Constabulary named Mitchell*, charged with robbing and killing an Irish Justice of the Peace named Dixon at Dunlavin on February 2, was found guilty and sentenced to death. Another constable implicated in the crime committed suicide.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
