THE BEDSTEADS WERE BARE.
WASTE HOTEL SPACE SUSPECTED;
"The Licensing Committee suspects that some hotelkeepers in houses in the city with large accommodation are in the habit of discouraging guests," remarked Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the annual meeting of the City Licensing Committee to-day. "We don't know quite how to meet the case, but we feel that there is a deal of waste accommodation in some large hotels." The comments were made when, in reply to £ report' on one hotel by the police inspector, that when he got there some bedsteads were bare, Counsel for the licensee explained that the practice of the house wa% to make up the beds only when the rooms were in use, for the reason that otherwise the linen became soiled owing to the house being in a dusty location. Counsel, however, accepted the hint tbat the practice was looked on with suspicion.
