OBITUARY.

MR. LIONEL N. BENJAMIN.

A gentleman well known in Auckland commercial circles, Mr. Lionel N. Benjamin, died at his residence, Victoria Avenue, Remuera, yesterday, in the sixty-ninth year of his age. Mr. Benjamin was born in London, and came to New Zealand about forty-live years ago. He started business on his own account at Dunedin, and later was in business with his brothers in Queensland. Nest, Mr. Benjamin joined a business firm in Sydney. He was afterwards appointed relieving officer in Messrs. P. Hayman and Co.'s office, Wellington, and two years later was appointed manager of the Auckland branch, which position he occupied for 27 years, right up to the last. On Saturday, May 21, Mr. Benjamin was seized witli a stroke of paralysis, and from the first little hope of recovery was entertained. Deceased was a member of the Northern Club, the Auckland Club, and the Racing Club. He is survived by his widow, two sons (Messrs. Roland and Henri Benjamin), also by one daughter (Mrs. D. Benson, of Dunedin). The interment takes place to-morrow afternoon at Waikumete Cemetery. For many years past Mr. L. Benjamin was a member of the Board of Management of the Auckland Hebrew Congregation, and always took an active part in all Jewish affairs.
