REPAIRING OLD HOUSE.

"A OH BAP JOB." j "This belongs to a class of cases | which frequently come before the ' Court." said Mr. E. '". (uttcn. S.M.. ! when giving a decision in a dispute re- | garding a pliim'.x-r's bill. "Both partiee have grievances, but the trouble always arises from the name thing. A man asks for a cheap job. and he gets it. I but is not satisfied with what he asked for. In this case a plumber was sent to fix up an old house, and was asked to do the work very cheaply. Amongst ! other things he found a galvanised iron waste pipe under the house. Instead of replacing it with a lead or iron one. he patched it. and put a piece of lead pipe at the outlet. The real ground of complaint was that the defendant rang up the inspector, who condemned the galvanised iron waste pipe. The inspector did not complain of the workmanship, but about such a pipe being under the hoi!.-", and he was quite right in doing so."' The case was one in which 11. A. Harrison, plumber (Mr. sued Frederick Walter Punch (Mr. O'Donncll) to recover £21 lS.'fl for work done and material supplied. Defendant l>aid into Court £15 4/, and counterclaimed for £(*> 10/ alleged to be paid for work done by another plumber to complete the job. The defence was that there had been overcharges, and that the £6 10/ was paid to another plumber to finish up the work properly. Evidence was given for the defence by the inspector for 'Mount A'-bert Borough, who stated that a number of i the older houses in that district had I galvanised iron waste pipes, but now that the same "by-laws had been adopted | as are in use in the city, these had to be replaced with lead or iron ones as they got out of order. Mr. Cutten gave judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, with | costs, and also f< r the plaintiff" on the I counter claim.
