INVESTIGATING PRICES.
■ I —♦— ■ TRIBUNAL IN AUCKLAND. Since its return from the visit to the Bay of Plenty and Poverty Bay disi tricts, the Auckland Prices Investigation Tribunal has had a great deal of business to be put through this week, and has held sittings on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and to-day. This morning's meeting had about 40 cuses down for consideration, the majority of them being complaints, though some were in the nature of inquiries set afoot by the tribunal. The tribunal is now keeping a careful eye on the price of soap, watching the soap market, which has been falling for some time. The schedules concerning the price charged, the cost in labour and material, the different qualities of leather used, and all other conditions governing the repair of footwear have now been returned, and the tribunal is calling a I conference with a number of rcpresentaj tive bootmakers of Auckland city and I suburbs. This conference is set for j Tuesday morning, when the price of repairs will be discussed, and a pronouncement by the tribunal will probably follow. It is understood that attention 'has been drawn to the falling price of leather, while the prices charged for repairs have apparently diminished little, if at all.
