Markrw and Compniy, Ltd.. and inspection made one wonder at any "inrilar rimbers 'being imported, ■when F'n" can proriuce snfh fine, valuable ami iurable timbers of her own. ths.n fhese timbers, each for itii c~n particular use, vr\]\ prace the Exhi'iition. The .ia.rr.T'':ee are 9 iiiches by 2 iiK-hes, and 4 f»o! :oitp. Each is hah' polished and half p'sin. and the lot-ely gra;ninps and markings are seen to r*rrfection. The ::n!ber poes on per Makura today fis to Tjondon. The timber-?. *ent are a? follows:— Yafiran. or the true vac: (Eugeiria spp>?in*a'i .-. soft toned, 'brown-erey tVmbcr. pscp'.ior.t for'wharre?, piles and construction work. Vasi dravu, or grey yasi (Eugenia effusa> ; looks Terv lrke walnut, tin exoeiient t.mi>er for furniture or for bridge «'ork: w iU stand a pood strain. Bua bua (Guettarda ?peciosa) or bastard box. a swept cutting wood of jrreat durability. Daroanu \ Calapbvlluni BurmAnni'i, similar to the African bay tree, like nj&liojany, tough in the gTain and very good for punts, joists, etc. Tt is also used for furniture, but is inclined to twist. YaJca (Casuarina i, the favourite Fijian timber; splendid w-ood for furniture. Dabi iXylocarpus granatum) with pretty sort of bird.- eye graining, of a mahogany eo'oiir. and u?ej for furniture. Vesi (Afzelia a plentiful timber in Vavua Levua. It is akin to Brazilian greenheart and is used for piles and bridjres and other heavy -work. Bauvudi i Eupnubiaoeaei. like Aus-tral-ian cedar, of a dark r>ro-.rn colour, and a favourite vvood for furniture and cabinet making. Dakua I Dammara vitiensis). or Fiji kauri, an invaluable trood. white in colocr. and used for k'.tchen dressers and similar ciassee of furniture, and in general joinery. That is the list, small perhaps in number, but of rare quality. It might have been useful to have font a greater variety, Fiji hag a wonderful variety. Mr. .Marlow informs us that his firm has ] cut. .already m different varieties of ■tiji timber, and more yet awaits exploitation. I
