At the Coroner's inquiry concerning the death of Mr. Powdrell, member for Patea, a verdict was returned: "That death resulted from injuries sustained in a fall from a bank, whether by accident or design there was no evidence to show." Witnesses deposed that Mr. Powdrell had been under treatment for neurasthenia, brought on by worry and insomnia. Supervision was needed, not so much because of the possibility of Rplf-de«*ruction, as to prevent him becoming a prey to his own thought?. Within three yards of deceased's ground floor bedroom there was a .bank about 10 feet high, with tree 3 at the top. Th? nurse who was in charge of deceased said he slept very little on Tuesday night, and was not well in the morning. He walked about the bedroom, and witness made his bed. Suddenly the door banged j and Mr. Powdrell disappeared. Witness followed, heard a thud, and a few seconds later saw deceased lying at the foot of the bank. He had no time t" get upstairs.
