A MISSING VESSEL
WRECKAOE WASHED ASHORE. (Bj- Telegraph-Press Association J <'.HRIS!TC-HURCH, Thursday. H is stated that wreckage which Alas Kin seen off the Waipapa Heads, north ot Kaikoura, probably belongs to the ii:U»ing sailing vessel ,)ohn and Wintbn.p. Captain Wildman, of th? toinei Alexander, sighted the .Tohn and Winthrop about 27 miles from this sp.it on 1-cbruary 11. ten days after she left i.yttelton. This is the last time the vessel was seen or heard of. It is suggested that the captain of the •1011,, and Wmthrop tried to <,et his vessel into a small cove near the Waipapa headland, fqr shelter, and that the vessel was wrecked in the attempt on the same rocks on which the Union Company s laiaroa was wrecked many years "■-"• Thp entrance to this cove'is a difficult and dangerous one.
