POLICE COURT.
(Before Messrs. E. Gerard and J. H. Bradney, J.P.'s.) DRUNKENNESS. A female first offender, who was on the way to Rotoroa Island on a private application, was convicted and discharged. Jeremiah O'Reilly (52), who had been caught drunk live times within the pact six months, was fined £.1, in default fourteen days" jniprisonment. Peter McCabe (38) wits charged 20/ for his •second recent offence. Two first offenders were fined 10/ apiece. TO»THE TUNE OF THREE MONTHS. "T know absolutely nothing about how T got them."' declared James Francis M■•Mullen (.11), who was found drunk at the Railway entrance on Wednesday, last week, and had on him half a-dozen gramophone records and two bottles of ether. There was suspicion about the ownership of the records and ether, and inquiries elicited that a little while \ftfore his arrest he had been in Howies gramophone shop' drunkenly fiddling round with some records, and had left without making a purchase. The records found on him were similar to those hebad been looking over at the shop. The scaled bottles of ether, disclaimed by iMcMullen, could not be traced "back to an owner. In view of the fact that McMullen had a police history, his theft of the canned melody cost him a sentence of three months" hard labour. THE PRENTICE TOUCH. Two lads of sixteen admitted the theft of electrical appliances On:- took goods from the stock of a rtore where he worked, while the other hoped himself from the shelves of his employers and they exchanged parts of the iroods taken. Chief-D?teetive McMahon stated that tne accused had had good characters to date, and were of respectable parent age. while their employers were prepared to allow the lads to finish their appren tir-pships. Both lads were convicted and ordered tn come up for sentence when eailed up with a proviso that one of them should make restitution of 10/6. and the othei of £2 10/. THE KfIGIC "SYLVIA."
