CHAR-A-BANC ACCIDENT.
i A SECOND VICTIM. > DEATH OF MRS. A. MARDEN. j I Yet another death attributable to the char-a-banc accident at New Lynn occurred last evening, when Mrs. Anne Marden. of Titirangi Road. Now Lynn, I succumbed to an attack of pneumonia i brought on through submersion in the ■ cold "waters of the creek into which the j ! unfortunate New Lynn party dropped 'with the vehicle. Through' the unanticipated submersion the deceased had I her lun~s filled with water. ShP was 'taken to her home, acute pneumonia developed, and she was removed yester day to the hospital, where she passed away. Deceased was fifty years of age. She is survived by her husband and daughter. Mrs. 0. j. Wilson, mother ot the "late Miss M. Wilson, the other victim of the accident, who was al*o aboard the vehicle with the rest of the family when the crash took place, is sullering considerably from shock. Her eldest son U suffering likewise. An in quest into the circumstances of Mrs. jMarden's death will be opened formally Iby Mr. J. W. Poynton. 5..M., at the J niorgue at seven o'clock this evening, for identification purposes. LAID TO REST. The funeral of Mis* M. Wilson, the I first victim of the accident, took pla.ee at Waikumete cemetery this afternoon! and was largely attended. A larpe num- j her of wreaths were received by the relatives of the deceased, the people of New Lynn and surrounding dwtrictw showing , much sympathy for the bereaved parents and family in their sad loss. Had she lived. Miss Wilson would have reached her seventeenth year about two J months hence. I The hospital authorities this Rfternoon reported the sufferers of the accident in that institution to be progressing ' favourably. The- scene of the mishap and the wrecked motor bus attracted many people from near and far on Sunday. A resident living clese handy to the spot estimates thai fully 15.000 people , must have visited the bridge, or at least , all that remains of it, on the Sabbath. Thoy ramp in motor buses, motor ca.rp ;and other vehicles, he said, from seven I o'clock in the morning until dusk. The New Lynn Road Board's superf viser. reporting on the extraordinary ; traffic of Saturday last in connection >j with the Muriwai motor races, to a , meeting of that body last evening, said: , 'As a result of the whole of this traffic > "converging on the Great North Road very material damage was caused. 1 re- • spectfully submit that what occurred on Saturday last warrants the Board taking definite action in the event of a similar exhibition taking place. The I marvel is that the strain on the Whan bridge, in view of the present condition of the planking, was not disastrous."
