Tf certain ingenious inventors had their way the tramway cars of England would be the most interesting and startling in the -world. In en efTo.-t to find a new typ« of electric car .the London County Council recently offered a prize of XI.OOO for the best improved design. It has been confronted with many curious projects as a result. One competitor suggests first and second class cars; another "three-deck-ers"; a third, possibly a woman-hater, spet-ial cars for the fair s:'X. ■\mong the more ambitious schemes is one for "dividing the oars into compartment*, as on the railway?. Each compartment would bn open at a side rov-i-idor. and would be warmed electrically !I flne' U c- ; av in the fantastic shows an nlonjtatrd car, about twice the usual lr-n"th divided into Brst and second class, v.itTi lugfrat.' racks, long central table uith iiikpots aiuall corupurlment for dogs, aud, finally, a small refreshment bar.
