MARKSMEN AT TRENTHAM.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. THE AUCKLAND MATCH. (By Telegraph.—Prep* Association.) TRENTHAM, Friday. Dull and damp conditions prevailed at Tientham to-day. The camp was early astir to liiul yesterday's drizzle still hanging like a pall over the valley, and when a start was made promptly at eight o'clock on the opening match at 300 yds, 500 yds, and 600 yds tlie haze and drizzle made visibility a matter of difficulty. At times a man was lucky and pot through while the rain held off for a few libinutes. and some good shooting was cionc. An interested visitor on the ranges to-day was Major S. Bleechmore, secretary of the South Australian Kifle Association, who inquired closely into the working of the meeting. .MajorGeneral (liaytor, Comnutndant of the Dominion Forces, was also present. All invitation was sent to H.M.s. Chatham's company to he represented al the meeting, but a reply was received that owinu to lack of opportunity for practice the men could not avail themselves of the offer. It was hoped that next year they would be able to make a good showing. The results of to-day'e shooting were as follows:— OI'EXIXC ■MATCH inol counted for belli. 300.
