FOR SINKING U29.
The prize bounty granted for the destruction of the German submarine U 29 '.b about to be distributed, says tfie "Pall Mail Gazette. This recalls the fo*e of Otto Weddigen, the priece of l"-boat commanders, who was in charge of U29 when she met her doom. It was on March IS, 1015, near Scapa, that a look-out In 11.M.5. Dreadnought suddenly sighted a periscope close at hand. The huge battleship turned at full speed and rammed the intruder, whose bow came out of the water under the impact, enabling her number, Ca>, to bo clearly read. She then broke in two and sauk like a stone with all hands. Weddigen had previously suuk the three ' - Crcssys" and- the Hawke. Before leaving Kiel on his last cruise he had sworn to torpedo a British dreadnought or perish in the attempt—and he kept his vow.
