OBITUARY.

MX. J. E. HALL. The death occurred somewhat suddenly in a private hospital on Saturday of a highly esteemed resident of Devonport, Mr. James Edwin Hull, at the age of 6S years. Deceased \va~ one of the founders of Devonport Congregational Church. He has served as a""niember of th« Auckland District Committee, and also as a delegate to the annual meetings of the Executive Council of the Congregational Union of New Zealand. Mr. Hall was in the private hospital. and as late as Saturday morning told a friend he would be leaving shortly. His medical attendants were aware of the danger Mr. Hall was under in consequence of clots of blood. For some time Mr. Hall was one of the commercial staff of the Auckland "Star.'' He is survived by a widow and three children. The interment took place to-day at "aikumete.

MR. HENRY ALDER. The death oecured suddenly on Sunday of Mr. Henry Alder, well-known in Auckland, as for many rears past the energetic inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Parnell, hut never recovered consciousnese, death taiing place about 3.30 p.m. The cause oi death was febrile hemorrhage of the brain. Mr. Alder was born in Berwick in 1854, and came to New Zealand in the ship AVaikato in ISSO. For the last 18 years Mr. Alder has been a most energetic inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and worked all hours attending to the care of. dumb animals. He is survived by his widow, who is at (Jisborne visiting her son. The children are Messrs. Thomas Alder, of Cisborne; Henry, Hugh and William, of Auckland-' Mrs. E. Bradford. Misses May, Catherine and Dorothy Alder. The interment takes place on Thursday morning at Waikaraka C'emeterv.
