SOLDIERS' GRAVES.
A VISIT TO WAIKL—ETE. Members of the executive of the Soldiers Mother*' League and the Returned Soldiers' Aesoci-atdon paid a visit of ins-petition to the sakirexs' cemetery at Waikumete yesterday afternoon, and were both surprised and gratified at the decided improvement made. The graves have been neatly mounded, and errtire-ly cleared from weeds, with narrow pathways separating each grave. Wooden crosses have been erected with the soldiers' name and number att-aehed, which g'ves a pleasing, uniform appearance to the cemetery, which will be considerably added to iby the erection of the obelisk by the Returned Soldiers' Association to the memory of these dead soldiers. It is to the credit of the civic authorities that aU objection has Ibeen so promptly cleared atvav, which apparently w-as caused throuph a misuirderstanding on the Government* part as to whose duty it was to tend these gTaves. It is understood that this duty will he taken entirely over by the Government in about three months' trime.
