STOLEN SPOONS.
RACE TEA-ROOMS CLEARED OUT. (Br Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. "Count your spoons'" is the warning issued ac a result of the experience of caterers at the Wellington Races. Dishonest patrons must have numbered some hundreds and their dishonesty was of a particularly.mean type. They were thieves, and they stole teaspoons. With a record crowd present the tea rooms were liberally patronised. It wae impossible to watch everybody all the time, and as a result the teaspoons disappeared one by one, and by the end of the day the stock had been seriously depleted. The spoons were of good quality, probably that wae the reason why they were stolen. It was agreed on the final day that the public could not be trusted, so only one teaspoon, and that of inferior quality, was allowed for each table. Of course patrons protested against th«, but tbey were told pretty plainly that this was all the public deserved.
