FIRE BLIGHT PREVENTION.
* A special meeting of the executive of the Central Fire Blight Committee was held in the rooms of the Agricultural Department, Albert Street, to-day. Dr. Reakes wrote stating that the experiments at Otahuhu were being discontinued as an isolated orchard had been secured for experimental purposes.
Colonel Mayfield wrote from Tauranga giving experiences there in cutting back fire blight infections. The results so far he considered very inconclusive. Mr. G. A. Green reported that the recent conference of nurserymen voted £20 to the fire blight funds. The reports showed that fire blight tip infections were still prevalent in infected areas, notwithstanding that it is so late in the season.
Complaints were received showing that the ordinary work of the Division was being held up through the excess of work entailed by fire blight.
It was decided to "write again t» I>r. Reakes and Mr. Kirk, representing the urgency of the matter, and also stating that as the whole of the Agricultural Department's Divisional staffs in Auckland are understaffed it is impossible to get assistance locally.
It was decided to call a general meeting ot the committee early in. February.
