"WELL PLAYED, AMERICA!"
Those who before the event said "May the 'best men win!'' have had their wish fulfilled. The best men have won, and the Davis Cup goes to -the United Suites without the faintest wisp of doubt cl'nging to the racquets of its (bearers. "Well played, America!" say ail of us. You have shown us superfine tennis, and we will iilways remember your splendid skill and fine determination. The Australasians, we hope, will set out before long to recover tho Cup, but we realise perfectly well that so long as the standard set by Messrs. Tilden and Johnston is maintained in America, the task will be most difficult. We shall also remember our visitors as admirable sportsmen, and we appreciate the warm tributes they have paid -to our spectators for their generous impartiality. It is Something to bo proud of that Messrs. Tilden and Johnston should say 'that they have never ibefore played with "such an impartial gallery." That the traditions of good sport-smansJiip should survive among players and spectators is infinitely the" most important •thing.
