INTBRPHOTINCIAL CRICKET. WELLINGTON BEATS CANTERBUBY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCnURCH, Tuesday. Wellington defeated Canterbury by 73 runs. Yesterday's rnln had deadeowl the wicket somewhat, but It In doubtful If this KHve cither side any advantage. Welling ton's butting to-day was poor, but Canterbury's was poorer, and this accounted for the tatter's downfall. The weather to-day was beautifully lino and the wicket, though slow, was easy, and should have produced a lnt more runs thuu were made on It. There was a good attendance. With the exception of the Sandman-Rend partnership Canterliurys butting was disappointing. Wellington's fielding was first-class. Briee bowled very steadily, and kopt the batsmen quiet. In Wellington's second Innings there wae only one batsman on the side, Hlddleaton. and he battpd in masterly style for his Jl9. It was an Innings of very sound defence with many good scoring strokes. McGlrr wi\b missed three tlnic-s in making his 30. Blunts throe wickets for .'!f> was a capital performance, lie had most of the batsmen guessing. The ground fielding of Canterbury showed a little improvement on that of the llrst. innings, hut tho ilropped catches made It anything hut a creditable performance. There is llttlo to be said about Canterbury's second Innings. Blunts early dismissal by an exceptionally good catch sromod to have a depressing effect, and at no time did the skip look like making runs. Midrtleton put up a fine performance in bowling right through the Innings and getting live for 24. II? was very accurate in his length, but wenk batting assisted him.
