HANDICAPS FOR NEW TEARS DAY. The Whangarel Harbour Regatta, which i< bold at Oncrnlil <>v New Years Day, has bet-ome a very popular fixture with tho residents of WhangareA and surrounding districts, while the businesslike way in which the sail ami power boat races are conducted ensures the support of 'the boating men not only local but from Auckland as well. Owing to seme dissatisfaction on the part of the rowing men these events hare tieen cancelled, but exceptionally good entries have been received in all the other events, no less than 27 launches having entered In the cruisers' race. With tine weather a day's good sport is assured, while the natural grandstand formed by the rising ground overlooking the wbarf affords to all a full view of the races from start to finleh.
