HEAVY RAINFALL.

CONTINUES TO-DAY. Heavy rain commenced to fall about ten o'clock yesterday morning and continued until the afternoon, when the weather cleared considerably. Work on the waterfront suffered on account of the rain. The Mararoa was delayed about four hours, leaving here for Giaborne and Napier shortly after nine o'clock last evening. Dnring the twentyfour hours ended at nine o'clock this morning, the rainfall totalled .65 inches. This morning broke dull and gloomy, and about eleven o'clock a drizzle set in, which necessitated the Davis Cup matches being postponed until tomorrow. The Auckland Racing Club, however, held its second day's meeting at EUerslie in spite of the unfavourable weather.
