ANTI-GAMBLING CAMPAIGN.

J. MA.RTIXDALE ARRESTED. (By Telegraph.—-Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The police have shown considerable activity of late in suppressing gaming , , and have conducted several successful raids. To-day they turned their attention to "'Jack" Martindale, well known in sporting circles in Wellington. Chief Detective Ward, who has been particularly active in the campaign against bookmaking, and others paid a visit to the New Commercial Hotel, where they arrested Martindale and Vincent Stanislaus, a barman. The former was subsequently liberated on bail; self in £250, and one surety of a like amount.
