With regard to tlie vessels of tlie I'nion Steamsh p Company which are held up at Sydney on account of the strike the company have to-rlav rrceiv-.d advice to the effect that owing to the delay occasioned by the Niagara, and to there bc'inff no prospects of beinj; able to dispatch her until close on to the Ma-knxa's dates, it has become necessary to cancel the former steamer's voyaire outwards. Passengers now waiting for the Niagara will be accommodated in the Makura, which will 1-nve Sidney on January 13 and Auckland on .lancary 18. It is then hoped to follow with the Niagara, sailing from Sydney about Fchrunry 10, and AufWlaml. February lii. In view of tihe Niagara's withdrawal, arrangements for the Pae'fie Coast service are now under considerat on. andj will be d_initelv announced at a later] date. Nothing further ha.s developed with regard to the Maheni. and in the meantime tlie service to Sydney is being maintained by the Moana. whVh is due to leave here on Thursday. Tlie weather, however, may delay her departure until iFridav. The Makura is at present on ■her way from Vancouver, ard will b? passing through here to Sydney on January 5.
