OPENED IN DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. The New Zealand Chess Congress wa» officially opened here to-day, the speakers being Messrs R. A. Cleland (president), the Mayor of Dunedin, and the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout). On behalf of the competitors, Messrs. W. A. Mason and Kelling spoke. There are eight competitors in the championship, and the hours of play have been fixed from 2 p.m. to 5.15 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., adjourned games 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
