NORTH CAPE TO BLUFF.

THE VICTORY HIGHWAY. VIEW OF MOTORISTS. Thr proposal to construct a highway from tho North Capo to the Bluff is not yet (i dead letter, and last night at the mfpting of the Automobile Association it \va? revived. The association received a communication from the Soldiers Mothers" League, seeking its support. The secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, emphasised the need of discriminatinp between this proposal and those of the Cnrvd Roads Association, which had been supported by the motorists. The Aork of those interested in the betterment of the roads appeared to be meeting with success, for Parliament had forrrasted a bill dealing with main roads control, and had promised to send tho association a drnft of it for criticism.

It was thought by Mr. A. Grayson Uint both schemes could be worked in conjunction. It might be practicable to [•nil the main highway through th-e two islands the Victory Highway. At prc-rnt it was known as the South Koad. Possibly the Government would tiller control of the maitf'Toad *md call it Lhe Victorr'Higliway.

Attention was drawn by the chairman, Air. <;. Hcmiinc. to the disposition of thr association to regard any memorial proposal from other "than a utilitarian aspect.

Mr. Grayson added that if the highway whs decided upon, each district through wliii-h it went could take it upon itself (o embellish the road in whatever way it thought fit by the erection of nrches or other monuments,, or by planting trees. Tt would be well to work on the present line, and urge the adoption of the Victorian system. _ In answer to a nuery he said the project would take about twenty years.
