WOOL SALES.
CROSSBREDS RECEDE AGAIN, MILLS BUY HALF-BRED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTVHURCH, Tuesday. The second Christchurch wool sale was held to-day, English as well as a full bench of New Zealand buyers being represented. The »ale showed a distinct firming in wools of 50's count and over, but anything below 50"s met with disappointing inquiry. While values for half-breds appreciated from 10 to 16 per cent over the initial sale, coarse wools ehowed a further weakening of from 5 to 10 per cent. Three-quarter-bred wool also eased on the previous rates to the extent of Ad per lb. Tiie \ew Zealand mills operated heavily for half-bred wool, and this competition, which was absent from the initial sale, established a higher standard of values. Early in the sale, 15Jd per lb was obtained for super half-bred, and this figure was frequently approached during the day. English representatives bid spiritedly for the finer grades, but apparently they bid in sharply-defined limits which met the market more in medium quality than in super., the bulk of the latter going to the mills. <4 Pieces participated in the firmer demand, fellmongers operating freely. _ A seven-bale lot of Corriedale wool wns passed in at lod. General lots of Down wool were passed at 12Ad. Generally the sale was irregular. One lot nf coarse crossbred wooj was passed at lid, while the highest figure recorded for a sold lot was fHd for four bales of hogget wool. On an average crossbred wool was nbout Id per lb lower than at the initial sale.
