WAR RELIEF WORK.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

The Executive Committee of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association met this afternoon, the Mayor, Mr. J. 11. Gunson, presiding. Before proceeding with the consideration of the correspondence, the chairman welcomed back Mr. A. G. Lunn, who recently returned from a trip abroad. Major-General R. .S. F. Henderson, London, wrote thanking the as.ocia.tion for a. donation of £ 100 towards furnishing the officers' premises of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, British section. The letter was received. The honorary secretary of the Service Patients' Welfare Committee, Pukeora Military Sanatorium, -advised by letter that at the last meeting of the service patients in that institution the newspaper report of the Dominion Conference of patriotic societies was discussed, and it was resolved that patriotic: societies be written to concerning T.B. men and their disabilities. "It was suggested,'' continued the letter, "that each district should ear-mark a certain amount of its funds for the exclusive purpose of providing for T.B. soldiers when discharged from sanatoria.

The committee dealing with permanently disabled, ca.e. reported that since the last meeting grants totalling £2500 1/6 to 12 cases had been made and that, as previously reported, eligibility for permanently disabled assistance was much more stringent. The committee felt that the time had arrived when strict regard should be had to the executive's ruling, viz., that the economic position of applicants must be taken into account when consideringtheir war disability.

The Claims Board reported that since the last meeting 70 applicants had appeared personally before the board, and it had dealt with applications by correspondence to the number of 137. The total amount expended was £1119 15/.
