AUCKLAND CHORAL FESTIVAL
A MEMORABLE EVENT. The outstanding feature of the Auckland Choral Society's approaching Choral Festival in the Town Hall will be the performance on Thursday, December 16, of " Elijah," with * Mr. Fraser Gauge, the eminent English basso, and Miss Amy Evans, the delightful English soprano, in the leading roles. Not since Santley sang in Auckland many years ago in this great work lias such keen interest been manifested in any musical festival of the kind, and we may look forward to a masterly interpretation by a really great artist. The other soloists are Miss Laura Stone (coritraltoVj Mr. Edwin Dennis, A.R.C.M.," FVN'C.M. (tenor), and Mr. Leslie Belcher (tenor). The conductor is Mr. Colin Muston, and the leader of the orchestra Miss Edith Whitelaw. The chorus work in "Elijah" is among the finest and most stirring of any of our great oratorios, and with a largely augmented choir and orchestra something quite beyond ordinary may be confidently anticipated. The box plan is at the Richardson Piano C'o.'s shop in Queen Street.
