DIED IN CHURCH.
WHIX.E TTNVEILING ROLL OF HONOUR. MR. W. LAMBtRT. A tragic occurrence in connection with the unveiling of the roll of honour at St. David's Presbyterian Church, Khyber Pass, yesterday morninp. was the sudden death of Mr. William Lambert, just after he had performed the ceremony. There were crowded congregations both morning and evening. The Boy Scouts paraded at the morning service, and special sermons suited to the occasion were preached by the Rev. D. Herron 'then and also at night. An anthem composed toy tiie organist, Mr. K. S. Cranston, was hung liy the choir. Mrs. W. M. Commons unveiled a. memorial tablet at the morning service, and Mr. Lambert, Avhose youngest son was killed in the war, uncovered the roll of honour. He had just walked back to his seat after making a few appropriate remarks, and the congregation was pinging "Now the Labourers Task is O'er," when he was seen to fall forward. He was carried into the vestibule, where death took place almost immediately. Mr. Lambert had been under medical treatment for heart trouble for the last two years. Deceased was very well known in New Zealand, having been for many yeara connected with the insurance business. He was born at Islington, London, 73 years ago and arrived in New Zealand when four years of age in the ship Francis Walker. Mr. Lambert spent a long period at Dunedin, where he gerved for twenty years with two wholesale firms. He was for a time captain of the Dunedin Artillery Corps. From i 1886 until the branch was closed in 1904 Mr. Lambert was manager for Ne*Zealand of the New York Life Insurance Company. After that he was in business as an indentor and manufacturers' agent in Wellington. Later he 'became district secretary for the Auckland branch of the Mutual Life Association, : with which he has 'been connected ever since. Mr. Lambert was an enthusiastic bowler, being at one time secretary and . treasurer of the Wellington Bowling Club and the Northern Bowling Association. He was a',so a past president of j Auckland Bowling Club. 1 Deceased had been a member of ! St. David's Church ever since he came to reside in Auckland, and for many years one of the Board of Managers. He is survived by a widow and adult family.
