BANDITS' ATTACK ON DOCTOR. A most daring hold-up occurred In Nexv York, when masked bandits attacked and knocked unconscious M. Emil Hartung, a xvell knoxx-n Nexv York doctor, whom ,' they enticed by a call from a fake patient, and robbed him of over 4000 dollars in cash and jewellery. It appears that early tn the morning Dr. Hartung received an urgent call to attend a sick man whose house xvas near by. On arriving he was admitted to a room where he saw a man in bed apparently xvrlthlng In pain. He took out.his stethoscope and was bending over the patient xvhen a second man wearing a black mask pressed a revolver to his face aud commanded binto put up his bands. Dr. Hartung, hoxvevei, who is a poxverful man, grappled xvith his assailant. Both fell to tbe floor struggling, xx-herc-upon the supposed pa Lieut leapt out of bed flourishing a steel chisel, which he brought doxvu nn the doctor's head, inflicting terrible wounds. The robbers then rifled their victim and secured ti-O dollars in cash and 3_Oo dollars' worth of jewellery. Meaiixvhile a large crowd, attracted by the doctor's cries, assembled in front of the house, when txvo men emerged and made a bolt for liberty. An Intensely exciting chase through the streets ensued flnishiiig in a coal cellar, from which the men (lis-
appeared by a second exit and escaped. The doctor, who xvas found to be In a serious condition, xvas removed to hospital.
