AUCKLAND DEEDS OFFICE.
RELIEVING THE CONGESTION. STEPS BEING TAKEN. There should shortljPbe an improvement in the deplorably overcrowded state of the Deeds Office at Auckland. The Secretary and the Registrar l General of Lauds and Deeds, and the , Assistant-Public Service Commissioner have all been to Auckland, and they have gone thoroughly and carefully into the congestion which exists in the office owing to shortage of staff and lack of adequate accommodation. It is satisfactory to be able to report that extra accommodation is now under way, bricks and other material being on the ground^ The staff has been strengthened and arrangements are being made for a further strengthening. The legal profession and people of Auckland have been put to a considerable amount of trouble owing to the state of affaire which has existed for so long, but the authorities are now doing their best with the officers available, and steps are being taken to remedy the losses that the Department has suffered through the war and other causes. It is confidently hoped by those concerned that at an early stage the conditions at present existing in the Auckland office will be considerably remedied.
