AUCKLAND'S GREAT GROWTH.
J A'XD XEED OF SCHOOLS. Auckland's phenomenal growth was referred to by the Hon. C. J. Parr -when talking about education on Saturday. Ten years ago the population was 97,00*0. In l&lfi it had grown to 134.000, and today the population was not less than 140,000. That gave an increase of over 44 per cent, for the ten years. No other centre in the Dominion showed the same development. That rapid growth made it very difficult to provide adequate school accommodation, particularly as the cost of building materials had gone up 110 per cent, since IM4. Auckland wants a larger teacher-.' training college, and the Minister said he had inspected three sites for a new building, and would submit the matter to Cabinet. Another important work in Auckland was the erection of a new school to take the place of the present old buildings in Xe'lson Street and >s"apier Street. This matter was discussed on Saturday with the Education Board, and will now be brought before Cabinet.
