Mr. W. 0. Riddel!, 331., of Wellington, is in Auckland in connection with, a departmental commission. Dr. W. J. Anderson, Director of Education, left for Wellington by the express last night. ■Sir. Vincent Ward, second son of Sir Joseph Ward, Bart., left liy the Maraina on a trip to the United States and .Europe. Mr. Gavin Wilson, locomotive engineer, of Petone, has been appointed to go to England to superintend the- construction of locumotives for the Government. Mr. H. G. Shakes has been appointed to the charge of the recently-opened branch of the Public Trust Office at Wellington. Mr. Matthew Alex. MeLeod. managing director of Radium Polishes; Ltd.. died last Friday week at his residence, Wilton Road, Wadestown, Wellington, after a fairly long illness. Mr. ~R. A. Kcntier (formerly of the staff of the Auckland "JStur")] general secretary of the branch of the V.M.C.A. at Christchurch, h:is pone to Sydney as a delegate to the Australasian V.M.C.A. Convention. _ The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education) arrived by tbe express This morning from Wellington, accompanied by his private secretary (Mr. F. Matthews). They arc staying at the Grand Hotel, and return to 'Wellington by Uy express to-morrow flight.
