COMPENSATION FOR A BOY.
« 1 OTOrOE OF WORK LIMITED. j Compensation amounting to £40 15/2 ! has been awarded by the Arbitration Court, Mr Justice stringer pr'n"- Q ' esto a minor named Albert Charles Speck, 116 yeare of age, who was injured while ■ working as an apprentice with the firm lof Young and Company, engravers, Auckland. Speck sueta : ned a fracture of his right leg as the result of a fall while using a stamping machine. His wages were 1-/6 ' per week. It was contended that as the plaintiff had suffered permanent disability of the nature of flat-footedness and loss of ankle flexion his earning capacity had been reduced in that his choice of occupation was 1 mited. The Court held that the lad was not now fit for occupations re<|uirinar activity or continual standing, but that » in other respects his earnins power hal , not been reduced. Plaintiff had been paid half wages [or 35 weeks, but was ' entitled to a further period of seven weeks of total incapacity at 6/3 and 4/ per weel<. loss of earning power computed at 5 per cent, for 270 weeks, making £4!) 15/2. with £7 7/ costs, and witnesses' expenses.
