BAY OF PLENTY ELECTION.
I the covEßNirrrrr candidate. i (By Telegraph.—Press Assoclailon.) GISBORKB, this day. Mr. K. S. Williams, opening his campaign in tho Government interests as a \ candidate for tlie Bay of Plenty seat at , Kaiteratahi, said the fact that trouble ! had arisen over the early closing of the J rolls showed how little public men on botli sides of politics knew of the lack of communications in the electorate. He knew that there would be heavy taxation for years to come, and held that those who were able to pay should carry their full proportion of the burden. There were many urgent State needs, but reafl'orostation did not loom large enough in the State's programme. H« was a strong supporter of closer settlement, nnd members of his family had offered their properties on the East Coast to the Government for that purpose. Hia motto in life had always been help the next man. and ho and his family, had done all they could to settle natives on the East Coast, and train them as agriculturists. He had always had good relations with Labour, and, as in the past, he would support Labour in getting a fair deal. A vote of thanks and confidence was passed unanimously.
