A NEW OFFENCE.
RECKLESS MOTOR- DRIVING. (By Telcirraph.—Parliamentnry Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Coroner's comment at the inquest on t!te Rev. Mr. Hardy, of Christchurch, fatally injured in a motor accident, was referred by Dr. Thacker to Mr. Massey to-day. The magistrate, in his finding, suggested that the Government should make a new offence of reckless driving, punishable by a severe penalty. The I'remier said he had seen the reference, and thoroughly agreed that it was a serious question. A similar utterance had been brought under hi.s notice earlier in the session, and he had referred it to the Commissioner of l'olice. If legislation was necessary, and he believed it was, something would be done before the end of the session to make the reckless motorist a good deal more careful.
